Privacy policy for Rivalboard: Competitor Prices
Last updated 2026-10-01. This app is operated by JT Palms. Contact: jtpalms98@gmail.com.
What the app does
Rivalboard: Competitor Prices is a Shopify app that lets a merchant follow prices, stock and new products at competitor stores that run on Shopify. It reads those stores' public product feeds (products.json) and compares them with the merchant's own products. It never copies competitor product titles, descriptions or images into the merchant's store.
Information we collect from your Shopify store
- Your store's myshopify.com domain, store name and store currency.
- An access token issued by Shopify when you install the app. It allows read-only access to your products (the read_products permission) and nothing else.
- Your products' IDs, titles, vendors, variant options, SKUs, barcodes, prices, compare-at prices and availability, used to propose matches and to compare prices.
- Your plan and trial status, read from Shopify billing.
The app does not request access to customers, orders or any other customer personal data, and does not store names or email addresses of your staff.
Information you give us
- The addresses of competitor stores you add.
- Your decisions on proposed matches, and any currency you set for a competitor.
Information we read from competitor stores
From each competitor's public products.json feed we keep product IDs, handles, titles, vendors, product types, variant options, SKUs, prices, compare-at prices, availability and publish dates. We do not keep product descriptions or images, and the feeds contain no personal data. We read robots.txt first and skip any store that disallows it, we send at most one request per second to each store, and we skip stores behind a password, a login or bot protection. More detail: about our bot.
How we use information
Only to provide the app: reading catalogs, proposing matches, detecting changes, showing the dashboard and building your weekly digest. We do not sell information, do not use it for advertising, do not share it with other merchants and do not use it to train AI models.
Where information is stored and who processes it
Information is stored in a database run by our hosting provider, Render, in United States (Ohio). The hosting provider processes it only on our behalf. Shopify processes billing. No other third parties receive it.
The app does not send email at present. The weekly digest is shown inside the app.
Cookies and tracking
The app runs inside Shopify admin and uses Shopify session tokens to sign you in. It sets no advertising or analytics cookies.
Retention and deletion
- When you uninstall the app, no new checks start and the access token is deleted. A check that is already running finishes.
- Shopify sends a shop deletion request 48 hours after uninstall. We then delete all information stored for your store: competitors, catalogs, matches, change history, digests, jobs and the access token. If that request never reaches us, we delete the same information 30 days after uninstall.
- While the app is installed, change history older than 13 months is deleted automatically.
- You can ask us to delete your information at any time by writing to jtpalms98@gmail.com.
Your rights and your customers' rights
You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about your store, or ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to jtpalms98@gmail.com. We answer within 30 days. Because the app stores no customer personal data, Shopify's customer data requests (customers/data_request and customers/redact) have nothing to return or erase; we still acknowledge each request.
Security
Connections use HTTPS. Access tokens are stored in our database and used only to read your products. Access to the database is limited to the operator.
